Lenten Worship and Luncheon - Glenwood (Wednesday, Mar 10, 12:00 PM)
At Glenwood UMC, 1417 Glenwood Ave. Rev. Joel Locklear. Once again during the season of Lent, several United Methodist Churches in the Lee-High Cluster will gather for worship and to share lunch together during the Wednesdays of Lent. The Lee-High Cluster was originally formed as churches located along the High Point Road / Lee Street corridor. Worship will begin at 12:00 noon and a simple meal (donations accepted) will be served by the host church at 12:30.

Wednesday Night Dinner (Wednesday, Mar 10, 6:00 PM)
Where can you go and get a good meal for only $5.00 and have a great time in a pleasant atmosphere on High Point Road? Wednesday Night Dinner and Fellowship at Hinshaw UMC! We are looking for people like you who like good food, can come and eat here –starts at 6:00 on 2nd and 4th Wednesday nights of each month. It’s better than fast food restaurants and you’ll enjoy getting to know the people. Donna and Jim would like to invite you to come and enjoy a nice dinner that you don’t have to prepare. You simply pay $5 and enjoy the food and the people. Call the church no later than noon on the Tuesday before the meal with how many are coming and then show up with your $5, eat and have fun getting to know the other people who come. Hopefully we can get to know everyone better. Come and eat, relax and fellowship with one another. Get to know current and future church family and friends. Bring some new friends to try it out!

Trip to Mission Response Center (Friday, Mar 12, 7:30 AM)
MAF, as well as any adults within the church, are needed and welcome to travel to the Western North Carolina Mission Response Center in Terrell, NC. The purpose of this trip is to sort and check kits for earthquake victims. We will load the bus on Friday, March 12th at 7:30 am. We will travel to McDonalds for breakfast and on to the center. Bring a bag lunch, snacks and drinks to be placed in a cooler. Cooler and ice provided. We will work until 3:00 p.m. and return to the church by 5:00 p.m. Please call the church office by noon on the 11th of March to sign-up for this opportunity.

MAF Trip Planning Luncheon (Tuesday, Mar 23, 11:00 AM)
At 11:00 am on Tuesday, March 23rd all adults are invited to meet and plan the next few months of MAF trips. Lunch will be provided. Bring your ideas and come prepared with details that are helpful to the process. Please call the church office by noon on Monday the 22nd of March to sign-up for the lunch.

Worship will begin at 12:00 noon and a simple meal (donations accepted) will be served by the host church at 12:30.

Serve ADK (Thursday, Apr 1, 5:15 PM)
Each month of the school year there is a fundraising meal held in the fellowship hall. Volunteer tasks include preparing food at home or at church, room set-up, plate loaders, waiters, waitresses, and clean up. Food preparers have the option of being reimbursed from the fundraising effort. You can volunteer for this once a month project one time, or 2 or 3 times a year or many more times. ADK is a teachers’ sorority that involves working and retired teachers. We serve their meal as a fundraiser. The funds help with many projects. Call Jim Waynick to Volunteer.

District Day at Camp Guilrock (Sunday, Apr 11, 2:30 PM)
Get acquainted with Camp Guilrock as you are invited to enjoy walking trails, hayrides, music, horse rides and much more. This event will be for the Northeast and Greensboro Districts and will take place at Camp Guilrock on April 11, 2010 from 2:30 pm to 6:00 pm. All members of Northeast and Greensboro District Churches are invited. FREE! YES, WE SAID FREE!!!! Hot Dogs will be served for supper before the vespers service. Everyone is welcome!!!

UMW District Prayer Breakfast (Saturday, Apr 17, 8:00 AM)
The UMW District Prayer Breakfast will be Saturday, April 17 at Bennett College with 8 a.m. breakfast and 9 a.m. program.

District Leadership Conference (Sunday, Apr 18, 2:30 PM)
Each year the District offers classes to equip pastors and laity to carry out the ministry of their churches. Everyone is invited to attend. Our schedule only allows for one course to be attended. Christ UMC, 410 N. Holden Rd. 2:30 – 5:00 PM

Bible Studies:

  • Aldersgate Apartments (Wednesday 6:45 PM)
    The Aldersgate Bible Study meets at the Aldersgate Apartment Community Center 2608 Merrit Drive on Wednesday nights at 6:45 PM. This study is usually led by our pastor. All are invited to this popular weekly study.

Short-term/Long-term Studies:

  • Seizing the Moment (Every other Sunday 9:00 AM - Begins September 6, 2009)
    How many letters have never been written? How many phone calls have never been made? How many compliments have never been given? How many I’m sorrys remain unspoken? How many thank yous have never been said? How many I love yous are still unexpressed? Life is a series of crucial moments. For many reasons, we let the moment(s) slip by. Join us for Seizing the Moments – Making the Most of Life’s Opportunities. WHEN: Beginning Sunday September 6 at 9:00 a.m. – and every other Sunday thereafter. WHERE: Top of the stairs in the Fellowship Hall building
 

Children:
Opportunities are available throughout the year for children not old enough for MYF. These include occasional trips, Sunday School, Children's church during 11:00 a.m. Sunday service and an annual Vacation Bible School.

Youth:
The Youth Fellowship enjoys many great service and mission related projects. The Mountain Spiritual Life retreat, beach retreat for recreation, rafting in West Virginia, going to Camp Guilrock and many other trips and outings were held during the past year. Service projects of many types and descriptions are performed by the group ranging from visiting Kindred Hospital to helping with work around the church. Many opportunities occur for Christian education and retreats. MYF enjoys meeting together on Wednesday nights at 6:30 p.m.

 

 

Adult Fellowship:
The United Methodist Adult Fellowship is a Ministry of the church to all adults of the community. Church members and friends of the church come as often as they can. The bus is utilized for pleasure and education. The group enjoys meals both at church and on the road. The MAF travels extensively in North Carolina and throughout the Southeast. Meetings are planned monthly as a trip or a program.

Women's Fellowship:
The United Methodist women is a community of women whose purpose is to know God and to experience freedom as a whole person through Jesus Christ, to develop creative, supportive fellowship, and to expand concepts of mission through participation in the Global Ministry of the Church. The United Methodist Women are comprised of four "circle" groups which meet once a month at various times.

Men's Fellowship:
The United Methodist Men is a group of Christian men that feel it is their responsibility to show their love for Jesus Christ and to model their lives accordingly. The men meet monthly, the second Sunday of each month for breakfast and program at 7:00 a.m. They support all conference programs (the 4 major emphases) and are chartered by the General Commission of the UMMen. In 2005, the mens group won the Outstanding Fellowship Award from the Western North Carolina Conference of the United Methodist Church. This award is only given out to one mens group each year for the entire conference.

 

 

Adult Chancel Choir:
The adult choir helps to lead our Sunday morning worship service along with the worship band. Each Christmas season a special Cantata is performed. Rehearsal is Wednesday nights at 8:00 p.m.

Hand Bell Choir:
The hand bell choir performs at various times throughout the year during our worship service. Rehearsal is Wednesday nights at 6:45 p.m.

Children's Choir:
The children's choir practices and performs at various times throughout the year.

Worship Band:
The Hinshaw worship band helps to lead our Sunday morning worship service along with the chancel choir. This band also performs at various functions throughout the year. Reheasal is some Wednesdays at 9:15 p.m. and some Sundays at 1:30 p.m.
