Hinshaw Preschool Program Information
Promoting Learning and Development

2008-2009

The Hinshaw Preschool provides a developmentally appropriate learning experience for children in a warm Christian atmosphere. The preschool is small and non-profit with ratios that meet or are better than state standards. The preschool follows the guidelines of the National Association of Early Childhood educators and is developmentally appropriate.


PROGRAM GOALS:

  • the spiritual growth of the children through singing and other activities;
  • the development of each child's positive self image and self confidence;
  • growth of language and communication skills;
  • to communicate through music and art activities
  • building upon social skills and self help skills;
  • value one's own rights and the rights of others;
  • learn to listen for directions and follow them;
  • to be curious, wonder, and seek answers to questions;
  • grow in understanding and appreciation of God's love for everyone and in our willingness and ability to respond to this love.

The Hinshaw Preschool is a program ministry of Hinshaw Memorial United Methodist Church and will admit students of any race, color, national or ethnic origin.


PROGRAM AGES

Hinshaw Preschool is available for children ages 3, 4 and 5. The child must have reached age 3 by October 15th.

FIVE DAYS PER WEEK PROGRAM

The program operates five days a week and offer three, four and five year olds an all-encompassing preschool opportunity. Developmentally appropriate concepts and activities will provide a broad opportunity for these children.


COSTS AND PAYMENT POLICY

  • A non-refundable registration fee of $45.00 is required at the time of application for annual enrollment. The fee is per family not per child. The fee is the same regardless of the number of months used in the program.

The program operates Monday through Friday from 9:00 A.M. to 1:00 P.M. for children who will be three by October 15th. The program serves 3, 4 and 5 year olds for $185.00 a month.

  • Tuition is payable by the month. Payment should be mailed to the program treasurer prior to the payment deadline. The address is Hinshaw Preschool, Hinshaw UMC, 4501 High Point Road, Greensboro, NC 27407.
  • Each family will be responsible for payment of tuition by the 1st of the month. After the 5th of the month there will be a $15.00 fee for late payment of tuition, unless prior arrangement is made with the treasurer. Even if you choose to use only part of a scheduled day, week or month.


MEDICAL FORM, CONSENT TO TREATMENT FORM, FIELD TRIP FORM, PICK UP FORM, PHOTO FORM

All children must have on file the above mentioned forms and they must be updated annually. The forms must be turned in at the time the child begins the program. Emergency information including the doctor's name and how parents may be reached is also needed for each child. Parents are asked to immediately update us on changes in telephone numbers, etc.


OPEN HOUSE, DAYS, HOURS OF OPERATION, HOLIDAYS AND SNOW DAYS

For the school year 2008 - 2009, the first day of preschool is September 4th and open house is August 29th at 7:00 p.m. The last day of preschool will be the last Friday in May.

  1. The program operates Monday through Friday from 9:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m.
  2. The Preschool will recognize several teachers' workdays during the course of the school year. Notification of each workday will be made at least two weeks prior to the day. Scheduling of preschool teacher workdays does not affect the cost of the monthly tuition. Scheduling of preschool teacher workdays does not always follow the Guilford County teacher workday calendar.
  3. Hinshaw Preschool adheres to the Guilford County Schools' calendar for public school day closings due to holidays. The preschool's policy on emergency closings and openings is as follows:
    The program strives to remain open if at all possible.
    Weather related closings will follow the decisions made by the Guilford County Schools for inclement or dangerous weather. Early closing decisions for the preschool due to snow or ice or other storms will be made as necessary.
    If the public school system opens late, regardless of their time of opening, the preschool will open at 10:00 a.m.
    If the church is unsuitable for operation because of heat failure, etc., you will receive a telephone call.
    Holidays do not affect the cost of monthly tuition. Refunds or payment adjustments cannot be made because of weather or other emergency closings.


PARENT INFORMATION

  • Parents should plan to reinforce at home various skills that the children are learning in preschool.
  • Parents are always welcome to share hobbies or special skills at preschool as well as being a part of field trips and other opportunities that are offered.
  • Teacher conferences can be scheduled by the parent or teacher as needed. Parents are asked not to interrupt a teacher during class time.
  • Questions concerning the daily running of program should be taken up with the teacher. Questions concerning the preschool can also be directed to the church program director, who is available daily in the church office.
  • Parents need to know that the preschool discipline policy is to redirect the child.


PERSONAL BELONGINGS

  • For reasons of safety, parents are requested to send their child to preschool in closed-toed, rubber-soled shoes. No cowboy boots. No umbrellas.
  • A complete change of clothes, including socks, needs to be left in a sealed plastic bag marked clearly with the child's name. Daily diaper needs should be brought clearly marked as well. Disposable diapers are required.
  • Each child is asked to bring a regular size towel for rest. (No beach towels, please.)
  • Please mark all belongings, including books, with the child's name. Children should not bring toys to Preschool.
